ABOUT Simen Berg

Basically this guy who loves fresh air and activities. And his camera.

- Based in Norway, I work as a freelance photographer and writer, mainly for outdoor magazines and manufacturers of sports equipment. I've been working with PR for eight years and fairly recently replaced the office with the great outdoors.

Getting serious with the camera was triggered by the idea that I might fool people into consuming more fresh air. By exposing them to pictures of the fun stuff they realize they should do more.

I'm fortunate enough to know a lot of smiling and active athletes that I get to travel with and experience great stuff. This site and numerous magazines is where I share it with you.

Just get in touch if you'd like to buy pictures.

In addition to photography I also do:

- Articles on anything
- Press relations A-Z (kite.no/presse)
- Product PR
- Web developing (I bet you don't even have press pages or a decent intranet)

HP Photosmart 850 (4.1 megapixel):
I like it more and more. It is really easy to operate, but is a little slow to turn on and set up to be ready to shoot. Once up and running you have everything you need for manual adjustment. The zoom is really good, 8x optical, if you can hold still. As for the quality of the pictures, you can be the judge of that. My pictures from this camera have been printed in full page (A4) in Fri Flyt (magazine quality), and in double page in tabloid newspaper (VG - A2 format).

Equipment:

Völkl Gotama w/ Naxo randonnee, Scarpa Denali XT 2003
Please come back for my evaluation.

Völkl AX4 (724) w/ Rottefella R8, Scarpa T2 2004 (telemark)
Please come back for my evaluation. The binding is awesome. The Cobra is also plenty good.

Völkl Snowboard
As I've been snowboarding five times in my life, you'll have to come back in a couple of years to have my opinion...

daKine Backpacks, Travel Bags, gloves, etc.
The best there is.

Tracker DTS, Ortovox shovel and Probe.
Didn't have any use for them so far (knock on wood), but frequent testing indicates that it works.

Sky Alpine skins (G3)
Sweat and tears.

Komperdell Titanal Poles
Compact and light weight.

Siemens sx1
Online deluxe. Radio and MP3. Zoom Camera and Video. User interface not so good, unfortunately. Slow.

Siemens ME45
Deals perfectly with snow and serious changes of temperature. Has GPRS and wap for urgent matters. It has been on the road with me for a year, and keeps on ticking. With MP3 player.

Packard Bell iPower
A great tool.
On the road I use Telenor on my GPRS-phone, and a 3com card for wireless networks, where available. In Norway you now have it at Statoil gas stations, so I pull up frequently to update this site and email pictures to clients.

Earlier stuff

Fischer Big Stix FX 8.6 fti carbon ski (sample) 190cm. 120-86-95. Radius 28m. Telemark and alpine.
Moulded in carbon, it is an interesting ski. It replaces the Big Stix 84 (that I used to ski). It's stiffer than BS 84. In my taste it's still a bit soft and nervous at high speeds on wind-blown snow or in the piste. With a 34 mm cut, I also feel like I have to watch it going fast in the soft snow, but it's possible that I just need some more time on it. At slow speeds, in the forest, for example, it's perfect. It's also good for high speed carving in the piste. The Rottefella R8 binding is awesome. The Cobra is also plenty good.
